Landscape Photography - What is it exactly?
Landscape photography is a great field of photography, especially if you love nature and if you love to travel. You can travel the world taking pictures of beautiful scenes across
the country although not many people will be able to travel the
world.
For this reason you can find beautiful landscapes right where you live. That’s the great thing about nature, it’s everywhere, and
therefore landscapes are everywhere. And that same sunset behind the
mountain that you’ve seen everyday, may look pretty amazing to
someone who has never been to the mountains. Seeing the sun rise up
out of the oceanfront may be absolutely astonishing to someone who
has never been to the beach.

If you can open your eyes to the beauty of the
landscapes, then other people can see it in your end product. What
you may see every day is someone else’s treasure and capture it on
film. It’s all about the great pictures you take. You may see a night city skyline, a series of lightening bolts or an interesting cloud
- it’s how you take the picture that makes it beautiful to someone else.
Learning Landscape Photography
Take a course if you are serious about landscape photography
even if you have already taken a course in photography, you might
still want to take one specifically for landscape photography. By
doing this you will learn what film to use and how to work with the sunlight
as well as other natural light and also learn about achieving a sense of balance and scale,
especially how to photograph something like running water and similar issues that a landscape photographer might face.
Search the internet if you can’t find any appropriate classes in your area.
You can also find many groups and message boards as well as forums designed for landscape photographers to meet, share photos
as well as tips and ideas. You can get tips and advice for your
questions if you join these groups. By learning from more
experienced photographers you will also improve your game...

A photography exhibit by Sharon Early is on display at Boone County National Bank in Ashland through Sept. 29. An opening reception is from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Saturday in the gallery. Early is from St. Thomas and attended Helias High School. She was employed with Hewlett-Packard for 27 years.
Keep Longview Beautiful is sponsoring a Make a Difference Photography Contest. The contest is being held in conjunction with the 18th annual Make a Difference Day on Oct. 25.
